As Lead Product Designer, I spearheaded the end-to-end design of a digital intervention platform for the City of Mount Airy. I translated socio-economic data and stakeholder needs into a strategic WebApp designed to curb community violence. By bridging the gap between complex data and high-fidelity execution, I created a functional, trust-based experience for at-risk minority male students.

The Challenge
When introduced to the project and challenge at hand, we pick the subject of Public safety as an opportunity areas for city of Mount Area in North Carolina. With this topic, we had the chance to talk to the fire marshal who provided us the current state of gun violence at the time:

With the number of minority males increasing in gun violence at a rapid rate, this concerned around the youth being involved with gun violence.
The Goal
The goal for the project was presented in this question:
How might we decrease the number of gun violence being presented in the area, so that youth can be more involved with the community and programs?
Our Solution: CHANGE THE NARRATIVE!
Increase the socioeconomic status of young MINORITY males from economically disadvantaged households by introducing them to pathways to success and higher-paying jobs/industries through an engaging program that will create a circular community.
Reflection
Having the opportunity to be apart of a pitch competition and working on the Milestones project, was really hard but rewarding at the same time! From being the only designer on team, negotiating and talking with city officials, to finally representing my product I created to have it soon be developed in real life, all of skills and techniques I learned to be a better product designer with the understanding of business.
